token reward system

Several know that Ariana has given us a run for our money. She has been a huge challenge for us the last several months and Im not sure if it is a stage she is in or maybe because shes a spoiled rotten only child. So after we have consulted with many people, looked into different things we decided to change the rules of the house.
We decided on a wonderful token system. The first token/card system we tried is for 5-11 year olds. We know shes so close to being 5 we would give it a shot. Yeah it didnt go over too well. The cards are supposed to be the discipline tool and the tokens are what she earns (1 per day of not pulling a card). The only problem was- she said mommy and daddy buy me everything (1 token means $1) so why should she have to earn it, the cards were much to fun! So after talking to more people and doing more research online I decided to try a new system and tell Will and Ariana what I decided to do.

The first step is to write down the household rules, and Ariana's rule. Ariana seems to think that shes on the same level as Will and I so if she has a say in how things run which is why we thought it would be important to write down her specific rules.

Second step- decide what behavior we want to correct, and each behavior is on a token system. The things she needs to work on the most are worth more tokens giving her more insentive to try harder. When she goes against a rule, or whats on the token jar tokens will be taken away. Right now I have the value for each token set at 25 cents per token. Right now in 2 days shes earned $3. We might be broke so Im thinking I need to lower the token value to 10 cents.

Step 3- introduce the token system to Will and Ariana at dinner time. Luckly, this system she uses at church so she was already aware of how it works.

Yesterday we were abl to get her to eat all her dinner, eat dinner with a fork, clean her room without fuss, finally sleep in her bed without a screaming match until 1am, and eat 2 plates of food for lunch. Oh yeah, and she just got done doing the dishes. WHOO!!! I think we finally found something that might work for her!!!! So excited to have a happy household!!!

Right now Ariana wants to earn money for a 3rd American Girl doll. The doll is $100. Im curious to see if she might stick to that prize earning, or decide on something cheaper. If she decides to earn the money for another doll, I will be posting an update. Im sure it will take at least a month.
