I work my butt off (most of the time) at work. I know everyone, phone numbers, extension numbers, resident voices over the phone, and memorized most of the residents apartment numbers (except for the newest ones). Sometimes I feel my life revolves around work I mean the residents are seriously amazing people. With some seriously awesome stories. Have you ever paid attention to a senior, and the knowlege they carry? I think everyone should work at a retirement home for at least a week we see so much stuff- Will has said I should write a book. I see and hear some seriously crazy stuff. We always joke, but its something we always gotta remind ourself, that to some seniors 5 minutes
seems like 1 hour. So to keep certain people happy we have to be on our A-game all the time.
Ever listen to stories of seniors? Even people your own age? Even some younger people have serious stories to tell. At my work we have had the original owner of Jansport (her, her husband, and son started the backpack business then sold it), a senetor, lawyers, a top lawyer in the US (he was on some serious cases), a top rated local doctor. We had a resident who had been to every single continent, including Antartica numerous times, another one whos job sent him all around the world.
But yeah- if you havent already- go hang out with someone older. Listen to their stories, listen to thier advice!
Sometimes I think my passion has to do with my quality of work. Overall- I enjoy it. Which makes me employee of the month! Im proud of myself- totally surprised me. I think a lot of it has to go with who I am, and the respect I have towards not only the residents, but also my co-workers, guests, and myself. Sometimes, being around seniors helps give you a good prosective on life. A resident told me the other day "when I was young I wanted everything, I worked for everything. But once you hit my age, all that matters is your family. You dont have anything to show for your accomplishments- besides the family you have standing by your side." I mean really- what kind of amazing advice is that? One of the best. Honestly- all I want in life, is a good paying job which allows me to have no debt, buy a house, travel and make memories with my family.
