Where Am I Today?

If you want an update to why I left my job and started a new one click here for the story.

The story of this job is quite interesting, feel free to tell me what you think :)

After my pivotal downward spiral at my previous job (click here for the story) I decided to start looking for a new job. I had 1 job that I really wanted. I did everything to get that job, ideally, it was what! I sent a thank you letter, I followed up with the job several times, the whole 9 yards. Well, it turned out that I was over qualified. So, the HR Manager offered me another job which I decided not to take because it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I felt like I have every reason to be picky, I came from a job in Seattle that I loved, I had plenty of experience in my field, I didn't want to change everything to get myself in the door with a company I wanted to work for. But, even though I really wanted to work for them I ultimately decided to turn down the offer because it wasn't exactly what I wanted and it was not my ideal hours. Some may call me crazy, but I call me, well, crazy! The time I have with my daughter is priceless and I would have had to change her evening routine, make her go to bed later, take her out of Girl Scouts and Gymnastics (which she isn't in yet due to my own issues, I am hoping to have her start doing gymnastics in about a month or so). I, personally, can not do that.

After turning down that job I was submitting my resume like crazy. I had zero bites for about a week and a half / 2 weeks. I couldn't understand why so I went to LDS Employment Office to get some help. My resume was outdated. I guess resumes out date really quickly and mine was about 8 months outdated. I had Columbus Day off, and Ariana was in school so I spent most of my day at LDS Employment Office submitting resumes, updating my resume and getting my LinkedIn account set up. I was feeling really confident again so I went to bed satisfied in what I had done.

Tuesday night comes around and Will and Ariana were asleep. My personal quiet time is when they go to sleep so I was up until 1:00 am Wednesday morning submitting resumes. I spent my night on LDS Jobs. I came across an ad for a Pest Control company. The ad laid out everything the company was looking for and hey, I fit the ad perfectly. I left the ad and thought no, I am more qualified, I want to do more of a challenge. After thinking about it some more and looking at the ad 2 more times I decided I would respond to the ad. The ad did not want a resume attached, the company wanted a response to why the applicant would be the best fit for the company. I decided to take what I learned on LinkedIn and not just a robotic, plain email, like most people probably submitted, but if I was going to respond to this email I would put some of my personality into it. So, I went ahead an submitted for the job. I wasn't really sure if I wanted to work for a pest control company, I mean come on, me dealing with bugs, gross! But, I remembered what a friend in Everett told me about with his job. He is a pest control person and goes into commercial companies and gets rid of bugs. He intrigued me so I figured why not, it doesn't hurt to submit, plus it isn't like I am a technician going out and getting rid of the bugs.

Fast forward to Wednesday morning. Ariana and I get up Wednesday morning at 6:30 so we can say family prayer. Will volunteered to say the prayer and part of the prayer he says "Heavenly Father please bless Brooke that she can get a job to respond to her ad and she can get a job today".... When he ended the prayer I told him he had to be more reasonable and this just doesn't happen. I didn't see how this could be feasible. Ariana and I are getting ready for our day I am locking up the house, getting ready to go to work when my phone rings. The man said who he was and he was calling from this pest control company I applied for. I knew right away what it was about because I remember me spending time getting the email perfect. He said that it was last minute but wanted to see if I could come in that day and do an interview. I told him I would be at work until 3:00 but I would be free after 4:30 because I had an errand to run, but first I had to find a sitter for Ariana. I got everything worked out and was able to do the job interview at 4:15 and I ran my errand after the interview. The interview lasted until 4:45 and I texted my boss at the Chateau and told her that someone is probably going to call her for a reference. I kept my phone on silent by accident and missed the call at 5:15 so I called the interviewer back at 5:45 when I got the message. When I called him back at 5:45 he offered me the job.... within 18 hours after the initial email I was offered a job, the same day Will prayed about me getting a new job. For me, this is a true miracle, because something happened that I never dreamed of happening, it surely hasn't ever happened to me. I told him my husband will be home in 40 minutes and asked if he could wait for me to give him an answer so I can speak with him when he got home. We decided I would take the job so I called him back, when he offered me the job he said I could start training Friday, or Monday. I said Friday because I wanted an extra day training. I went to my job (or job at the time) and turned in my letter of resignation; let's just say that job isn't happy with me right now, oh well. I spent my Thursday at home very happy and getting lots of house work completed. I prayed about the job and got confirmation that this was the job I should take. Not only did I get confirmation once, but every single time I had thought about it over the next 2 days. Will said he got confirmation of it from his prayer, if this little miracle could happen then it is meant to be.

So, my new job.... I am basically a main person in the office. I do a bit of everything. I get to do a lot of the Admin stuff that I enjoy, but also the receptionist work I enjoyed at the Chateau. The company does pest control, but also during the warmer seasons they do attic and duct insulation. The insulation work is completing soon because of the winter months. I answer phones, take down appointments, call and remind of pest control appointments, do some mapping of where the insulation work is being completed, mail, filing, mainly just everything in the office. The office is a smaller company, the one downfall is there are no benefits. I know this is the job I should take so I have faith benefits will work out in some way, shape, or form. It is a newer company so I can see there being some potential in the future. The owner is 28 years old and I admire him for having 2 companies when he isn't 30. He has a degree in business and seems very smart in his business. There is 12 employees (small I know). The Chateau had about 50 employees when I started and had about 150 when I left so I can see some huge potential in the future. The office is REALLY small but I don't mind. There are 5 people that work in the office and 7 people out of the office working. Everyone seems to really like it and the only reason the person I am replacing is leaving is because she is moving to California. It seems very down to earth. There are times when I am the only one in the office, but the phones still ring so I still feel like there is some human connection. I am really hoping my heart and head did not lead me in the wrong direction this time and that I might actually enjoy this job, and be able to stay with it for a while and see what happens and how much I can evolve with the company.

On Friday my trainer was really trying to get me to tell her why I really quit my last job and was looking for a new job. I gave her round about reasons, all true, but not didn't include I had a crazy boss. We were talking about how picky the owner was on getting the perfect person in the office. Her last day of work was supposed to be October 3rd but every interview ended up with someone they didn't like, or someone that had bad references. The owner, and my trainer both knew that I was the person after they met me. She told me about the reference call to my old boss at the Chateau. I told her about our little miracle prayer. I started bragging a bit about the Chateau and really telling her how much I miss it and that I get really sad when I think about it. While talking to her I started to cry. Oh, and the insulation manager is from Woodinville, he grew up there and played High School football in Bothell. He knows exactly where I used to live, and exactly where the Chateau is, small world. So, all in all, I am praying this was the right move and somewhere that I will be happy working for.

Well, go figure, another long blog post. Hope you enjoyed reading this one :)
Signing off.
