Ariana has had the worst Kindergarten experience ever. We feel so aweful for her. The best thing we can do for her to make sure it is resolved is to look for a place to live that is still in our same neighborhood, but in another school. Luckly for us we are on the southern most part of her school boundary so if we go 1 block south she goes to one school, one block east and she can go to a different school, if we move 3 blocks west she has another option for a school. We decided to move one block to the east. We were really hoping to go to the school to the south of us but found out that it might not be the best idea because a few of the girls who bickor with Ariana will be going there next year. So we are moving a block and a half east. The school I hear is fantastic. There is a zero policy of bullying (which every school says but Ariana's school does not uphold). The reason I believe this school might actually uphold the zerio policy of bullying is the principal is intimidating to children, and some adults. The office is not "child friendly" like the current school office is (puzzles, reading nook, kids table and chair, and a few quiet games). My friend who is a sub in the district says not only is this school strict, but the kids are well rounded she has never come across any hard classes to teach, kids seem to get along well. The teachers are not caught up in their life and class they are more friendly and makes you feel welcome (unlike the current school). I am feeling very secure in our decision.
The hard part for me is removing her from her current class when there is only 6 weeks left of school. Will really wanted to have Ariana removed from school this year, but I really wanted her to stay I did not like the idea of removing her from school towards the end of the year. Will gave in and got the variance filled out and turned into the school so she can continue to go. After we were not allowed to volunteer or observe in class (only her class is not allowed to have volunteers) we decided to turn the decision over to Ariana. When we asked her she excitiedly said she wanted a new school with new friends and people who will be here friend. Last night we drove by her school and showed Ariana and she got really excited and wouldnt stop talking. She understands this is her decision and we are hoping it is better. We feel like if she is this excited to go to a new school she is not happy where she is at now. Last week Will said his concerns about Ariana getting bullied and the letter's conclusion stated "I feel Ariana is secure in her classroom and school inviroment". Just because she seems secure at school, shes a socialable secure stable child who will adapt to any situation, does not mean she enjoys being in school or is not getting bullied.
So, I do gotta say it is a huge sigh of relief for us to finally get her into a new school! And being in a 300 sq feet larger place is a huge bonus also. You dont realize how much 300 feet can make a difference until you are cramped into an 850 sq ft apartment. Not having to move out the table everytime we have guests arrive, having room to acually walk around the bed, or wait for the bathroom to become available, all those issues will sure be nice!
