poverty

Ok, so you know when you have a feeling to do something you do it without a doubt. Well, that's kinda the way it was tonight. We just got done grocery shopping and had a trunk full of groceries, I was driving down the road going home with a whopper in my hand and we are stopped at a stoplight with a man to the left begging for food. This is a normal thing for this particular intersection. Normally I feel somewhat selfish because I have a job, a nice car, a roof over my head, and the radio blaring at the stoplight and try to ignore the people on the corner. Side note- this corner usually has the same dozen or so people asking for food, money, or a job. Tonight I felt more ashamed, so to say, while at this stop light. We turned the corner and headed to our next stop- taco bell (i didnt want taco bell, but Will did). Like normal I pull into the parking lot, and Will goes inside to get the food (he doesnt like drive thru). He was in there for a long time, about 10 minutes Im thinking I should call him and see whats up, then he walks outside with 2 bags of food, a $5 box dinner, and a drink and I thought Wow, he is hungry tonight. Will said, while I was ordering my food I felt like I needed to get the man on the corner something to eat. This is NOT normal, if we gave to each person we seen we would be on the street. I said, yeah I felt kinda ashamed eating my cheeseburger while he is hungry and asking for food. So will walked down the hill to give him the dinner he bought him, while I drove down the street and met up with him. Will talked with him for a few minutes and gave him the last few dollars we had on us went inside the gas station and got him another drink as we found out his girlfriend is up the road on the other corner. The man went and got a bit more to eat and was going to meet up with his girlfriend for dinner.

This was a humbling experience, we have only done something like this a few times when we get the feeling to do something. The man was fighting back the tears and was very grateful.

I am proud of Will, that whenever he has the feeling to help someone out he does. I am not trying to brag, because we are not rich, we do not do this often. I am sharing this story because I am proud of Will, and his sharing, caring heart, and to let people know that sometimes when you have the feeling to help someone, act on that feeling because sometimes that person really might be hungry and might have gone days without food.
